Native Seed Share
Native Seed Share
Get a share our 2024 collected seeds. The seed mix includes species such as persimmon, black cherry, silky dogwood, redbud, sycamore, black walnut, cedar, oak, and a variety of wildflowers like black-eyed Susan, goldenrods, and wingstem. These plants are well-adapted to local conditions and require minimal care once established, making them ideal for anyone looking to restore a more natural, self-sustaining landscape.
Reducing the size of your lawn and replacing it with native plants is one of the most impactful ways to support your local ecosystem. Non-native plants, which often dominate suburban and urban landscapes, can create challenges for wildlife, limiting biodiversity and disrupting natural processes. When cleared areas are left alone to reseed, the plants that return are often invasive or poorly suited to supporting local ecosystems.
Our Native Forest Seed Share aims to address this by providing a dense, diverse mix of resilient native seeds that can help re-establish a balanced ecosystem on your property. This mix of trees, shrubs, and wildflowers is designed to "overplant" a small area, allowing nature to take its course. The plants will self-select based on what belongs in your local conditions, effectively building your own seed bank and helping to restore the ecological memory of your site.
To plant, simply mix the pre-stratified seeds into a bag of compost and spread them over the desired area. This approach jumpstarts the natural rewilding process, providing a range of species that will gradually establish themselves, supporting local wildlife and encouraging a more diverse, resilient ecosystem.
Two options are available:
- Standard Seed Share: A balanced selection of native plants to help re-establish a healthy, diverse ecosystem.
- Expansive Seed Share: Includes additional species like honey locust and pokeberry, which can spread more aggressively but offer further benefits for rewilding and supporting wildlife.
By actively kickstarting a native plant community, you’re not only reducing lawn space, but also creating a rich habitat for pollinators, birds, and other wildlife. Over time, this diverse mix of plants will establish itself, helping to repair the natural balance and ecological memory of your land.
