Plant a living forest fast — with cuttings, not full-size trees
This kit is designed for anyone with a wet-ish spot, low area, creek edge, swale, or compacted soil who wants to establish trees quickly, cheaply, and with minimal effort.
Instead of digging dozens of holes and shipping large trees, this kit uses live native cuttings from floodplain species that naturally root from dormant wood. You make a hole with rebar, drop the cutting in, and move on.
It’s one of the fastest ways to get a forest started.
What’s included in the base pack
-
10 live native cuttings
-
5 floodplain-adapted species (2 cuttings each)
This kit always includes:
-
American sycamore
-
Silky dogwood
-
Elderberry
Additional species are selected based on availability, season, and your geography, and may include willow, cottonwood, or similar native floodplain plants. A double pack is 2x the base pack.
All species are chosen for:
-
High survival rates
-
Fast establishment
-
Tolerance of wet or compacted soils
Why cuttings instead of trees
-
No digging full holes
-
Faster planting (minutes per cutting)
-
Much lower cost
-
Smaller box = lower shipping impact
-
Excellent survival when planted correctly
You don’t need special tools.
A piece of rebar or metal rod is enough.
Where this works best
-
Floodplains and creek edges
-
Low spots that stay damp
-
Swales and drainage areas
-
Restoration projects
-
Wildlife corridors
-
“Nothing grows here” zones
If the ground stays moist part of the year, this kit is a good fit.
How planting works
-
Push rebar into the ground
-
Wiggle it to open a hole
-
Insert the cutting
-
Firm soil around it
That’s it.
A simple planting guide is included.
What to expect
-
Cuttings arrive dormant
-
New growth emerges as temperatures warm
-
Establishment happens quickly in suitable soil
-
Species mix may vary slightly from kit to kit
Variability is normal and intentional.
This is how real floodplain forests establish themselves.

-
Cuttings are 6–18 inches long
